Sustainably farmed and made with a judicious, minimalist approach to oak, the fruit shines through to showcase the balanced, complex yet elegant style that can be made in Sonoma, California. Working with acclaimed winemaker, Philippe Langer, who started his career in France before settling in the Atlas Peak appellation of Napa Valley, the fruit for the Poiema wines comes from cool coastal vineyards in Sonoma.
Winemaker Phillippe Langner
Farming is in Phillippe Langner’s blood. Thanks to his world-traveling German father and Parisian mother, Langner spent his childhood and young adulthood learning in the fields of his family’s farms in Colombia and Zaire. He knew from a very early age that agriculture was his destiny, one that would lead him to double UC Davis Master’s degrees in Agronomy and Agricultural Economics.
Today he is a master viticulturist and lauded winemaker, but it was serendipity that got him into the wine business almost twenty-five years ago. An internship in Bordeaux evolved into a lifelong learning process. And it all started with the family farms. He owns his own vineyards in Napa, on Atlas Peak, called Kitoko. But it is his desire to learn more, experiment more, and better express his wines that leads him into other areas of California.
